Far and away the best way to get around Montreal on a budget. Bixi locations are also integrated into Google maps so if you have wireless earbuds you can navigate the city via audio prompts. The manual bikes are geared easily enough for most and the electric bikes are great if you need a boost. The system is super simple to use on a trip by trip basis, or with a monthly membership.

Don't buy their membership, they overcharge you, say you took electric bikes when you didn't. Refuse to refund the fees and also keep charging your credit card for a monthly membership even if you only wanted ONE month. I used to use bixis all the time, the way the company works really changed. I wouldn't be using them again. They also sent me a code for a free ride (which I used) but charged me the fee anyway. On the phone they said that they see nothing on their computer. I spoke with times

The Bixi service has really gone down hill the past few years. - So many docks don't even work. When you put a bike in it malfunctions and spitd it back out. Other times the bikes are jammed in. - The balance of bicycles at docks is horrible. I understand at night they have to move bikes out of the downtown core, but leave some at each station for people. The same for the opposite, leave some free spaces at each dock for people coming from the downtown core to other neighborhoods.
