Cash Basis is a method of accounting for transactions. It is simply based on the movement of money. Whether that is money received for commissions, sales, or loans; OR money spent on products, rent or insurance. Cash Basis makes your bookkeeping less complicated.
Through the use of banking grade technologies, and a little CPA wizardry mixed in, we have created a mobile application which makes bookkeeping as simple as the paper ledgers small business used in the previous century.
Does the IRS accept this method?
The IRS code allows for small businesses which have average gross receipts of $26 million or less to utilize the Cash Basis. There are some exceptions, but those typically apply only to larger businesses. This method is even available to businesses which purchase, produce or sell merchandise to produce their income.
All income is recognized when it is constructively received by the business with no restrictions. An expense is recognized when paid or disbursed. This includes charges made to a credit card - those are deemed to have been disbursed even if the balance has not been paid.
What kind of bookkeeping software?
We are a new breed of bookkeeping software that we call MeFM or Micro-Enterprise Financial Management. MeFM is a simplified system of categorizing financial activity for enterprises with 10 or fewer employees using data obtained directly from financial institutions.
The typical SMB accounting software increasingly utilizes advanced technologies to streamline the processes to the accumulation and production of financial reports. Importing Transactions
Through our unique partnership with a banking transaction collection provider, we are able to securely download transactions from over 16,000 financial institutions. This aggregation process seeks to eliminate data entry and reduce the risk of duplicate data. No more time wasted matching transactions to the bank or accidental duplicate entries on banking syncs.
Record & Date Reporting
As we mentioned above, Cash Basis treats transactions based on timing. Typically, your bank statement is the first place an IRS audit will begin. That's why Ledger Perfect starts with those financial transactions. But it does not stop there. What if a check clears the bank a month or more after you sent it? Our unique dual date system allows you to change the accounting date to match the date you distributed the payment, while keeping the date it cleared the bank.

We utilize matching techniques used by professional firms to speed up categorization of your transactions. Upon initial setup we provide a standard set of accounts for your business, rental or farming activities. To reduce duplication, we allow names and default categories to be used across all your businesses.
The Ledger Perfect Basics.
The accuracy and efficiency of a sound cash basis bookkeeping system begins with your financial data. Using your financial institutions' transactions, we create a basic ledger on which your bookkeeping is built.
To aid in the accuracy of your records, we recommend using separate financial accounts for each of your enterprises. Keeping everything in a separate bucket is a good visual representation of your bookkeeping. Imagine your transactions are water droplets. If droplets from two different buckets are mixed, it is virtually impossible to separate the water droplets back into the correct bucket. Through the process of using separate buckets (accounts) for each business, you will eliminate your tax time headaches and make your accountant smile.
Ledger Perfect is designed around this basic concept - each of your financial accounts will be assigned to a business. In turn, each business will have a default set of categories. Finally, transactions will be imported directly from each financial institution. This process keeps your account setup and record-keeping quick and painless. No wasted time setting up categories, entering transactions, or reconciling to the bank.
