The restaurant was founded in 1934 by Gaetana Cataldi from which it takes its name.
The founder, a typical Roman commoner with culinary and commercial talent, started the restaurant business inside rooms originally used as a warehouse.
At the time the Via Cola di Rienzo was far from being, as it was immediately revealed after the war, one of the most intensely lived arteries in Rome, until it became, today, one of the most recommended shopping streets in Rome. European level. Lively, dynamic, multi-ethnic, via Cola di Rienzo has not however lost its original elegance as a magnificent straight link between the Vatican City and the Tiber.
The surprising circumstance is that, despite the presence of hundreds of commercial establishments, Zigaetana was and is the only restaurant to overlook the street in question, a few tens of meters from the immense and sunny Piazza Risorgimento.
After more than half a century of typical Roman cuisine, expertly curated by the successive generations of the Cataldi family, today the restaurant, enhanced by profound innovations in the environments, in the management criteria and in the offer, is proposed as one of the most beautiful and modern in the capital, but without having renounced its roots.
